Georgia (visiting for 2 days)

Day 6

In 1733 Georgia was founded by Oglethorpe, as a debtor colony and for money (like most colonies).  On the first day in Georgia, since we will be arriving later in the evening, we will just be going to Brasstown Bald, to see the highest peak in Georgia.  Even though I am scared of heights, it was a beautiful sight to see Brasstown Bald!  But tomorrow is the last day of the road trip, and we are going to go to Altamaha River and the Savannah River.

Day 7

To start the day off, we are going to the Altamaha River.  Honestly, I did not get out at here, because I was so tired of all the rivers, and all but we will see whether or not I get out at the Savannah River.  Dad convinced me to get out at the Savannah River, and to be honest I probably would not have got out there either, if it was not for him asking me too.  Since it was the last sight we would see on our road trip, he wanted the whole family to get out and share their favorite part about the whole trip and of course mine was seeing our family in North Carolina!  I overall enjoyed the trip, but wish we could’ve stayed with family!

South Carolina (visiting for 1 day)

Day 5

So, today we have to go visit some of Mom’s friends that live here in the colony of South Carolina.  When we got to her friend’s house she told all of us that in 1670 it was founded for money, and for squatter conflicts, like North Carolina was.  Today Mom’s friend is taking us to the Savannah River and to Sassafras Mountain, but then after we leave her house, we have to go see my Dad’s friend, and he is going to take us to Lake Marion.

When we went to Sassafras Mountain with Mom’s friend, we tried some Sassafras root, which is said to make your teeth whiter, but man it tasted so good!  Then, we headed off to the Savannah River, where we sat and lounged around most the day, but it was relaxing to hear the roaring waters.  But now, we are headed to see Dad’s friend so that my Dad and him can go fishing in Lake Marion.  It’s a guys day though, so the girls are staying back at the house.  Dad came back and said he had fun, but they let all their fish go, and now we are headed to Georgia!

North Carolina (visiting for 1 day)

Day 4

Today we are visiting North Carolina.  Dad says that it was founded for money and squatter conflicts.  Who knows what that means.  In North Carolina we are visiting Roanoke River, Lake Lure, and Mount Mitchell.  Plus we have family who has a lake house on Lake Lure, so all of us are going to swim in the lake and fish, then for dinner we are going to eat on the base of Mount Mitchell.

When we went to the Roanoke River, I was really tired of going to rivers and everything, but it was still fun, I guess.  But, the part I am most excited about it seeing my family!  I haven’t seen them in forever!  When we arrived at my Granny’s house she had a big lunch cooked, so we ate and headed off to Lake Lure!  We caught a lot of little fish, but then my Dad caught the biggest ones.  Granny said that while we all headed off to Mount Mitchell, she was going to cook up the fish, and then she would come and meet all of us later.  It was nice to come to a colony where we actually knew people… Oh, and while we were there Granny told us that North Carolina was founded by  noble land owners in 1653.  Off to South Carolina!

Maryland (visiting for 1 day)

Day 3

On our way to Maryland, my Dad informed me that Maryland was founded in 1634, by Lord Baltimore.  It was founded for religious freedom for the Catholics.  Today we are going to visit Chesapeake Bay, Potomac River, and Backbone Mountain.  I know I will be sleepy by the time we get to Backbone Mountain, and I won’t be able to hike it.

Dad suprised me and now we are going to Backbone Mountain first, so I can hike it.  The hike was a breathtaking experience.  After the hike, we went to Chesapeake Bay to go swimming, so we could cool down after our hike.  Swimming was a blast, but I am so tired I didn’t wanna get out by the time we got to the Potomac River.  My family had fun, though.
